Assembling tutorial bonvelo BLIZZ

Cool bikes! But ordering a bicycle online is probably a completely different world for many of our customers. We try to help you make your decision a lot easier through maximum transparency and the honest reviews given by our customers on the Trusted Shops platform – available for everyone to read. However, there is often a question that remains unanswered: will I manage to finish the mounting of the already 85% pre-assembled singlespeed bike?

Our only answer is: with flying colors! Even if in some cases we had to provide telephone support during the assembly process, every single customer so far has been able to get the bike rolling on the streets. In order to make it even easier for all of you, we provide very clear “step-by-step” instructions on this blog that show how easy it really is to assemble our bonvelo BLIZZ.

Let´s get started: our singlespeed & fixie bikes are given to you in the maximum 128x19x77cm bonvelo packaging box. Inside, you will find the bike, the saddle, and a small accessories box safely stowed. Any additional ordered accessory is always sent separately in a different DHL package to avoid damages to the bike box.

Cut the plastic traps with scissors, carefully open the box and, if possible, remove the bike by the top tube. Make sure that no scratches or marks are caused by the metal clips on the box.

Next step: free your new singlespeed from its packaging and protection material and loosen carefully the cable straps that fix the individual parts to the bike. Here we would like to make a quick note about the packaging materials because the environment is for us at bonvelo always very important: we use cardboard and paper whenever it is possible. However, the remaining cushions made from plastic are essential to avoid damage during the transport of your bike. Then, you can carefully unhook the front wheel using the crank after removing the cable straps. The fork with the stem needs to be turned 180 degrees forward. The result should look like these:

Coming next: your handlebar will be mounted and attached! To do this, loosen the four screws on the stem and insert the handlebar in the middle (easy to recognize by the hatched area on the tightening zone). Then insert the 4 screws again and tighten them alternately, firm step by step (the gap on the stem should be the same at the top and bottom). The torque should be 4-5 NM.

Time to bring some action to your front wheel! Loosen both wheel nuts as far as possible and open your BLIZZ´s brake, pulling up the little lever on the side. Then insert the front wheel into the fork and tighten the nuts evenly one by one. Important tip: pump the front wheel up only after inserting it, otherwise it will no longer fit through the brake:

Truly important step before your first ride on your new singlespeed: attaching your pedals correctly! These are provided with marks (R/L) indicating whether it needs to be mounted on the right or the left side (driving direction). The right/left thread is a very important point because otherwise the thread could be really damaged. Another tip just in case there are problems with the “R/L” marks: the “WELLGO” lettering written on your pedals should always be readable from above. If you can, then everything is correct:

Missing anything else? Correct: The saddle and its seat post need to be attached adjusted at the right height for you. To do this, open the Allen screw on the saddle clamp, insert the seat post and tighten the screw with 4-5 NM. Please check as well whether the inclination and the seat position in the longitudinal axis (respecting the maximum adjusting range) fit your riding position and everything is tightened before you start:

Now it´s time to start the fine-tuning: unfortunately, we cannot always set the chain with the ideal tension before assembly – so please check whether you can easily lift or push the chain with one finger. If you cannot, the chain is too tight, which can cause a rolling noise. Fixing it is very simple, you can loosen the chain up using the two silver screws on the rear end of the bike. Then, tighten the real wheel again, and it should already run smooth:

Last sprint! Now all that is left is adding enough air to the tires and you can already start your first bike tour on your bonvelo singlespeed & fixie bike. We work with regular tubes with racing valves (French valves) but in our case only the 60mm long valves are important. Before pumping them up, unscrew the top of the valve as shown in the picture. Then air in, depending on your body weight and size, we recommend a 6-7 bar pressure. Then screw the top of the valve back on and add the cap to it. Done!
